Refugee Disaster Relief in Lebanon 2024

Under the Disaster Relief project, MIF, in collaboration with ACT Foundation, provided urgent and compassionate aid to refugee communities and families in crisis throughout Lebanon in 2024. The focus was on Palestinian refugees living in dire conditions, as well as Lebanese families struggling with poverty and displacement. The efforts were centered in and around the Mar Elias Refugee Camp in Beirut, home to approximately 4,000 displaced individuals. Many shelters lacked basic infrastructure, some without roofs, others with severe water leakage, rendering them unsafe and uninhabitable. The teams encountered elderly individuals, babies, children, and people with disabilities, all in urgent need of support. In response, MIF and ACT Foundation distributed over 1,200 kilograms of food, carefully packed into 40-kg hampers and delivered door-to-door by volunteers.

Aid extended beyond the camp as well: while setting up support for refugees, volunteers came across numerous Lebanese families also living in extreme poverty. In one particularly moving case, support was extended to a family caring for a woman paralyzed since infancy, sustained by the love and dedication of her siblings. Their strength and resilience inspired the team to continue delivering not only aid, but also empathy and encouragement. Medical assistance was also provided when volunteers identified a shortage of essential medicines during personal visits.

These collective efforts under the Disaster Relief project showcased the power of compassion in action, reaching the most vulnerable with food, shelter support, medical aid, and human connection.
