Disaster Relief in Turkey 2023

In 2023, the Mohanji International Foundation, in collaboration with the ACT Foundation, played a pivotal role in supporting communities affected by devastating earthquakes in Turkey. Building on a history of disaster relief efforts in regions like Turkey, Morocco, Syria, and Iran, where natural disasters have left thousands dead and hundreds of thousands homeless, the Foundation provided essential aid to those in dire need.

Following the catastrophic earthquake in Turkey, a team of volunteers quickly mobilized, with the ACT Compassion Van traveling from Serbia to facilitate large-scale aid distribution. Arriving just days after the disaster, the team focused on providing essential supplies, including shelter, hygiene products, food, and clothing. Thanks to generous donations from around the world, volunteers were able to distribute 4,400 kg of food, along with blankets, cooking stoves, tent heaters, and family food boxes. Aid was directed primarily to remote, snow-covered mountain villages where relief efforts had been minimal.

The local community’s support was overwhelming, with volunteers receiving free accommodations, meals, and even hospitality from earthquake victims. The personal delivery of items like diapers, blankets, hygiene pads, and thermal layers created a profound sense of connection. The distribution of wood burners brought immense joy, knowing they would provide warmth to over a thousand people huddling together each night.
