Disaster Relief in Morocco 2023

In September 2023, an earthquake struck the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, devastating indigenous villages. A volunteer team traveled to the region to offer relief and support. By living among the earthquake victims, the volunteers identified various needs, including upgrading school toilets that had become public facilities. Showers were provided, walls repaired, and buildings repainted, to bring some comfort to the affected communities. The team also supplied chairs, tables, tools, and extension leads to address basic needs. In a village where only two electricity sockets were operational, the simple provision of extension leads alleviated tensions over mobile phone charging. Even after the initial relief efforts, support continued through local contacts, with ongoing deliveries of food hampers to remote hilltop villages, craft materials for children, and electric heaters for tent camps.

The collaborative efforts of volunteers and local communities have made a significant impact, turning seemingly small supplies into sources of comfort and unity. These disaster relief initiatives highlight the Foundation’s commitment to being a global force for compassion, demonstrating that in times of crisis, we are truly one global beating heart.
