ACT 4 SRI LANKA OCTOBER 2022
Key Highlights for October
- Started distributing food to a nearby village, 70 lunch parcels were sent every day. The total number of meals served every day has reached approximately 120.
- Served 2675 meals during the month of October.
- Collected a sample from the water well and sent it for analysis; the results indicated that water is not of potable quality. A small team of water well cleaners was hired to clean the well. Installed a state-of-the-art water purifier in the kitchen that includes advanced technology including reverse osmosis and carbon/resin columns to treat the well water into potable quality. The water distributed now is treated according to scientifically. proven methods and is safe for drinking.
The kitchen operates six days every week and consistently serves nutritious vegan food to the local underprivileged communities during the lunch hour. The demand for food was steady during October, and it is important to note that the average meals served were approximately 120 every day. The total number of meals served during October exceeds 2675. The highest number of meals served on a single day during October was 130.
ACT/MIF team on the ground has reported that it is heart-melting to see many elderly, sick, and disabled people and school children visiting regularly to have their lunch which is the first meal for many of them. ACT is now looking to increase the number of meals served to around 150 by delivering lunch parcels to another nearby village with a higher number of poor families.
